Center for Academic Advising and Student Support Staff

 
  The Center for Academic Advising and Student Support is staffed by an Advising Coordinator, a Teacher Licensure Specialist, a half-time Receptionist, a Professional Academic Advisor and Graduate Students who serve as academic advisors.  The graduate students are completing master's degrees that lead to careers in the helping professions. Graduate students who serve as advisors are typically hired for a year-long employment in the Center and must go through an extensive training program prior to assuming their advising responsibilities. Advisors in the Academic Advising Center are available to assist any student. The Center is located in Peters Hall, room A104. Center hours during the fall and spring semesters are 8:00 am  until noon and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Monday thru Friday.

- Assistant Academic Advising Coordinator- Ms. Thomas works with students who are having problems meeting program requirements, new transfer students and all Exercise, Sport, and Health Education Freshmen. She is available to meet with any student interested in changing their major to one in the College and also meets with prospective students interested in RU and the College.
 

Lindsey Wade
Lindsey Wade - Lindsey will be working in our reception area.  She is able to assist students with advising,  making appointments, making referrals, and answering general questions about   the college or the university.

Liza will be working with students pursuing Interdisciplinary Studies who have not been assigned a faculty advisor and last names begin with M-Z. She is also available to assist any student who: has an interest in and wants to learn about any program in this college, needs clarification about academic policies and procedures, wants to learn about pursuing a teacher preparation program, and has other questions about programs, policies, or requirements.

- Gabriel will be working with students pursuing Interdisciplinary Studies who have not been assigned to a faculty advisor and last names begin with G-L. He will also be available to assist any student who: has an interest in and wants to learn about any program in this college, needs clarification about academic policies and procedures, wants to learn about pursuing a teacher preparation program, and has other questions about programs, policies, or requirements. 

 
  Kari Zoller

- Kari will be working with students pursuing Interdisciplinary Studies who have not been assigned to a faculty advisor and last names begin with A-F. She is also available to assist any student who: has an interest in and wants to learn about any program in this college, needs clarification about academic policies and procedures, wants to learn about pursuing a teacher preparation program, and has other questions about programs, policies, or requirements.

Libby Hall
- Teacher License Specialist - Ms. Hall works with students when they complete their program/degree and apply for their Virginia teaching license.  She also provides guidance and information to prospective students seeking their initial teaching license.  Any question relating to a Virginia teaching license should be directed to Ms. Hall.  In addition, she performs numerous tasks to support the Advising Center including updating the webpage, creating event announcements, and scheduling appointments for staff members.

Joyce Nester

- Receptionist - Ms. Nester serves as the receptionist during the afternoon hours.  She directs Center visitors to appropriate offices in the Center, in the Dean's suite, faculty offices, and other locations across campus.  She also provides general information and processes all declaration of major/minor forms.

Donna Dunn
- Advising Coordinator - Ms. Dunn works with students who need assistance related to academic petitions, creating a plan of study, problems or issues related to their progress toward graduation and more.
