The McGlothlin Celebration of Teaching will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, 4 -7 p.m. on the campus of Radford University. Winners of the 12th McGlothlin Awards for Teaching Excellence will be announced at the 6 p.m. ceremony in Bondurant Auditorium. Featured speaker is Homer Hickam, author of Rocket Boys (October Sky) and numerous other writings. To learn more about Hickam, visit http://www.homerhickam.com. Other previous winners of the award will be featured during afternoon presentations. The McGlothlin Celebration is planned and sponsored by RU’s College of Education and Human Development, RU Foundation, Blue Ridge PBS, and the McGlothlin Foundation of Bristol, Virginia.
The McGlothlin Awards for Teaching Excellence are among the largest teaching awards in the nation and are available only to educators in this region. Two award winners, one teaching in grades K-5 and one in grades 6-12, receive $25,000 each with the stipulation that $10,000 must be used within a year for international travel and/or study to broaden the thinking and experience of the winning teachers and further enhance their excellence as professional educators. The award has been directed since 1999 by Blue Ridge PBS.

Driving Directions:
I-81 to Exit 109. Turn onto US Route 177 North.
Follow Route 177 which becomes Tyler Ave. You will travel about 4-5 miles and will pass the university on your right.
Turn right onto Main Street at the end of Tyler Ave.
Turn right at the next light for parking in lots B or C.
A large University sign marks the main entrance on your right at the second stop light. This is Lot A but parking will be limited here.
